FAQ
Q. How does it work?
A. Splashpower uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to transfer power wirelessly via a magnetic field from the SplashPad charging base to the SplashModule power receiver.
Q. Is it safe?
A. Splashpower technology is specifically designed for compliance to current and anticipated international standards and regulations. We have successfully tested our first product design against the relevant regulatory standards in the USA and Europe. Magnetic induction is used in many common and high power applications such as transformers and motors. The magnetic field is very tightly confined to the device and charger.
Q. Which products will work with a charging base?
A. Any portable device which has been enabled with a SplashModule or has an integrated Splashpower receiver. Splashpower is a widely applicable technology that enables wireless power transfer from a wireless charging base to a device requiring power. As well as recharging products like mobile phones, MP3/media players, PDA's etc, Splashpower can be used to directly power products (for example, desk fans or lamps).
Q. Is it possible to charge different devices simultaneously using this technology, even if they have different power requirements?
A. Yes if the charger is designed to take more than one device at a time. Splashpower is designed to be universally interoperable, catering for a range of different devices with different requirements simultaneously, delivering ultimate convenience for the end user. We have demonstrated the charging of a Bluetooth headset with integrated receiver (requiring around 0.1 watt) as well as larger devices requiring 2.5 watts. We have a prototype "dual device" charger providing a total 5 watts to two devices.
Q. How long will it take to charge my devices on a charging base?
A. Devices will typically charge at the same rate as if you used a traditional plug-in charger, even if there are a number of devices being re-charged at the same time on a multi-bay charger.
Q. Does the technology affect the product's battery life?
A. The Splashpower charging base simply provides a power source for the device, just like traditional plug-in power supplies. Splashpower wireless power systems do not affect the battery.
Q. What is the effect of dropping common household items on the charger?
A. The charger has circuitry to detect the characteristics of a legitimate Splashpower receiver and only powers up when it detects this. Nevertheless, we have conducted extensive "Use-case" testing with household objects including batteries, aerosol cans, coins, keys etc to ensure that there is no safety issue with these being dropped onto a charger.
Q. What is the risk of damage to my credit card, hard drives or other magnetic data?
A. Splashpower technology has been successfully tested against common storage media including magnetic data stored on: credit cards, hard drives, floppy drives and other media. Normal use of the charger should not pose a risk to such media.
Q. Can my handset be charged with my wired charger or wireless power?
A. The Splashpower receiver enables a device to recieve wireless power. The same device can also retain connectors to allow wired charging or wireless charging.
